FILM SYNOPSIS
Motivated by her mother’s fear of long-term health consequences, Jijing Tang, a Chinese-American woman, alleviates her mother’s fear by practicing the ancient tradition of one-month confinement after giving birth to her second child. She is confined to her home in the suburb of Queens, New York and must navigate the tradition’s outdated taboos and limited food options. While she is encouraged to relax and recuperate, the rules within the tradition are restrictive. A MONTH OF SITTING IN gives a visual insight to an ancient tradition unheard of outside the Asian community.
